ABBIE IS A SPECIAL NEEDS DOG.
Abbie transferred into the 360
Degree Dog program from Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue, Inc, where
she was not considered place-able due to serious dog-aggression
problems.
She had made very good progress
during her social and psychological rehabilitation and was scheduled
to be adopted. See video below for information on her
rehabilitation. Due to a stroke of very bad luck, Abbie tore
her crutiate ligament (knee) just a few weeks before going to her
new home. In combination with assistance from the Great Lakes
Weim Rescue, Abbie has had her knee repaired at
SportsVet (a high
quality, orthopedic specialist) and is in the process of her 12
weeks of physical rehabilitation.
We would be very happy if we could
find a kind, loving, dedicated new owner for Abbie who is willing to
take over the task of her physical therapy which includes slow
walks (on lead only) and ice therapy after walking, massage, NO
STAIRS, walking on inclines (scheduled in future weeks),
sit to stand & stand to sit exercises, slow treadmill walking. Most of the time, Abbie must be crate
confined for the next few months.
Abbie had her staples removed on
4/3/08, and so she is now available to move to a new
home, ONLY IF THE NEW OWNER is interested in using the physical
rehabilitation as a bonding experience, and is totally dedicated to
her continued care.
She is walking without a limp, most
of the time, now. She is still required to be leash walked,
only. But, she can now take longer, slow walks each day.
Abbie is WONDERFUL about remaining crated and her leash-only walks
and she gets to her business quickly.
Abbie is a friendly, happy,
intelligent girl. She is very loyal and loving and likes to
hang out with her people.
She is spayed, heartworm negative and
on preventative and is up to date on her inoculations.
