To Rough

We buried you beneath butterflies

In the shade of an old oak tree

While the morning sun warmed dew cooled earth

In the meadow by the pond

We buried you beneath butterflies

Which danced on jeweled wings

While memories filled my saddened heart

I recalled your loyal bond

We buried you beneath butterflies

My devoted friend for years

You’ll find new sight and your youthful gait

With the butterflies from beyond

Run proud and fast in your pain-free realm

I will miss you with all of my heart

I will remember your true magnificence

When I see butterflies at the pond
